A couple bouillon cubes a day are a great way to supplement your sodium (NaCl) intake while on a low carb ketogenic diet.

Thanks for the tip on NA CL. What about Potassium?
I do ketogenic combined with a 36 to 40 hour fast followed by a 8 to 12 hour eating period. I want to get enough potassium on my fasting period. And products or sorce like a potassim Chloride salt substitute? Eric
Hi Eric!
I cover some Potassium tips in “Three Products That Help With Electrolytes”. In addition to potassium rich foods, I use:
So, given your regime: perhaps a combination of drinking some ElectroMix while fasting andusing some lite salt on your food (when you refeed). I take my supplement before bed, mostly because it’s combined with Magnesium…
I’ll link again to Dr. Michael’ Eade’s article on electrolyte supplementation. I found it to be very helpful: Tips and Tricks for Starting or Restarting Low Carb – Part II
If you find a regimen that works well for you, can you check back in? Would love to hear what you discover!
-Michael
Thanks
I bought some of the Mortan salt mix.
I looked at bullion and it listed sodium BUT not potassium.
What brands are safe? Just the one mentioned?
Hi Eric!
I have not found a bouillon mix that lists potassium/has it in meaningful amounts. There may be one out there, but I’m not aware of it.
I just use the bouillon for NaCl supplementation…
-Michael
The body automatically balances sodium and potassium. So if you have a good balance of sodium the body will secrete less potassium without the need for a supplement.
